I would actually LOVE to hear what other people do with their Off the track Thoroughbreds! Send a message to us if you are a retired racehorse owner and let me know.
My OTTB mare, Charlie, is a pleasure/trail horse, for now. My main riding style is Western, but I bought an English saddle specifically for her and I have ridden her in it. I'm sort of thinking it may become my preferred saddle, actually. I have never ridden English style in a serious manner, so I didn't take lessons for English style riding. After riding for so long in Western saddles it is a little challenging, but honestly, it's pretty comfortable. I'm not 100% sure what Charlie wants to do just yet. I think she likes just being a trail horse. She's very brave while she's on a trail and will take the lead all on her own. I'm hoping that when I do manage to get more time to ride, that we can do a lot more trails, and play around with some events at clubs. I'm of a mind to provide her enrichment, rather than pushing for her to excel in any discipline.
